Work on I-94 bridges over St. Croix River to temporarily close trail

During closure, shuttle service will provide three trips per day across structures

 

The Hudson to Lakeland/Afton Trail will close to pedestrians and bicyclists Monday, June 22 at the bridges carrying I-94 over the St. Croix River. That same day, a shuttle service will begin providing three trips per day over the bridges, stopping in Hudson and Lakeland, MN.

The trail will be closed just north of the westbound I-94 bridge on the Wisconsin side of the river and just south of the eastbound bridge on the Minnesota side. The closure – anticipated to be in place until Sept. 4 – is necessary to replace a block wall crossing under and adjacent to I-94 and parallel to the trail on the Wisconsin side of the bridge.

The free shuttle will operate Sunday through Saturday and provide roundtrips at 7 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. daily, picking up passengers on the Wisconsin side first and then passengers in Minnesota from the following pickup and drop-off locations.

•             Wisconsin side: Boat launch parking lot on WIS 35 across the street from the wastewater treatment plant, 505 3rd St., Hudson

•             Minnesota side: Southwest corner of Hudson Road North and Quinlan Avenue North in Lakeland

The retaining wall work is part of a project rehabilitating the bridges over the St. Croix River. Construction began in early April, and project completion is scheduled for late October.

Lunda Construction Co. of Black River Falls is the prime contractor on the $9.85 million project.

Well Abandonment Grant Application

Washington County Well Sealing Grants 


Note: Due to the increased need for the Department of Public Health and Environment to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, the well sealing grant process may be delayed.

Property owners in the county may be eligible for financial assistance for sealing abandoned wells. Based on the property location and available funds, property owners may be eligible for 50% or 100% cost-share assistance, up to $2,000, in the form of reimbursement grants. 

50% Cost-Share Assistance

Under this program, applicants chosen for funding will be reimbursed up to 50 percent of the well sealing costs with a maximum of $2,000. This is open to all areas within the county, while funds exist. 

100% Cost-Share Assistance

The county has Clean Water Fund dollars from the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources, as well as 3M Settlement funds through the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, for well sealing. Under this program, applicants chosen for funding will be reimbursed for 100% of the well sealing cots, up to $2,000, in targeted areas of the county. This includes areas within a Drinking Water Supply Management Area (DWSMA) or in areas of contamination, such as PFAS contaminated areas. Staff will confirm your eligibility through the application process, as areas of contamination are updated.
